Snow and shutouts

Alex Auld got his first shutout in a Bruins jersey against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night. Jeremy Reich scored his first NHL goal in the first period in the 2-0 win. Marco Sturm added an empty net goal to seal the victory. Auld made 32 saves. That’s all to type about that.

And I didn’t end up going to the game, but that wasn’t a biggie. I should make up for my lack of game attendance this week.

Moves and Grooves: Defenseman Matt Hunwick and goaltender Tuukka Rask were returned to Providence within the last five days. With Rask returning to Providence, goaltender Tim Thomas was activated off the IR. Thomas should be able to back-up Auld on Tuesday, and get back in between the pipes soon. Forward Shawn Thornton (foot) and defenseman Bobby Allen (back spasms) have both been cleared to play.

Blinks and Links: Sidney Crosby and P.J. Axelsson are mentioned in the same sentence in a post by James Mirtle on an interesting topic… What the hell was Chris Simon thinking? Whatever it was, the Islanders are giving him however long it takes for him to clear his head… The Bruins played “Santa” and delivered toys to area hospitals on Friday. (I can’t find the link to it now of course.)… Andrew Alberts checks in with a few new nicknames for Milan “Gino” Lucic and Brandon “Mustachio” Bochenski. And this line at the beginning, “and then we were on the road for about nine years,” made me laugh… The Phoenix Coyotes were visiting Atlantic Division teams over the weekend and had a 4-1 win against the Devils on Saturday and a 5-1 win against the Rangers on Sunday. I know somebody who went to both games, and could now be considered a Coyotes good luck charm. Perhaps she should become a Coyotes season ticket holder instead. *wink*

Heebie Jeebies: I first found this quote from Bryan McCabe on Kukla’s Korner and it was one that made me cringe.

"I don't even know exactly what happened," McCabe said. "We just seemed to get tangled up. It was a freak thing, that's all.

"I knew something was wrong right away. At first I couldn't move my hand. Then, when I could start moving it, I could feel bones moving around in there. That's never a good thing."

Yeah, feeling bones moving around IN YOUR HAND is never a good thing. Ick.

Cliffhanger: The Bruins host the Ottawa Senators in about 18 hours and find out why I’m bummin’ in the game preview coming in about 12 hours. Also, look for a story about how a recent Christmas shopping trip to the Bruins Pro Shop had me purchasing items for myself more than anybody else. That store is one of my many weaknesses, right behind Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
