I will start the live-blog post off by asking a simple question that will be answered by the end of the night.
Simply put. Will the Bruins finally beat the Montreal Canadiens?
Bruin Starters: Thomas, Hnidy, Stuart, Axelsson, Kessel, Savard.
Wow. The Garden actually looks like a sell-out too! Cristobal Huet (12-6-5, 2.36 GAA, .925 Sv%) is getting the start for the Habs. I started the pre-game off with some pizza and a pearl harbor. Sadly, I am not out of Midori so it will be my last homemade pearl harbor for a while. Time for a new drink and time for the game!
First Period: Not even two minutes into the game, and the Bruins are a getting a penalty. Montreal smartly played the puck into the Bruins zone to get a face-off in the Bruins defensive zone to start the power play. Kobasew goes off to the penalty box for boarding at 1:59. Montreal’s power play specialty teams ranks 1st in the NHL. That’s lovely. Thomas makes a save and freezes the puck after the Habs hit the post. The Bruins have killed off the penalty, allowing only three shots. Krejci just had a great scoring opportunity. Sturm picks up the second penalty of the game for elbowing Plekanec. And the Canadiens score on the power play at 10:36. The puck deflected off Chara and went past Thomas. The Habs score again at 11:30, this time Lapierre who saw the puck squirt loose behind Thomas and poked it over the goal line. Bruins are down 2-0 early. Julien is not happy about the missed call behind the Habs net where Savard was hit from behind. The third penalty of the game goes to… the Bruins. Shocker. Sturm goes off for his second penalty, this time for holding at 14:12. The Bruins will finally get a power play after the Canadiens got a penalty while on the power play. After some 4-on-4 time, the Bruins will have the man-advantage. And with ten seconds remaining on the Bruins power play, Savard gets a penalty for holding at 17:07. Oy vey. Kovalev goes to the penalty box with over 30 seconds remaining on the Habs’ power play. The time of Kovalev’s penalty was 18:34. The Habs lead 2-0 after one period.
Two periods left… Thank goodness.
Second Period: Bruins have 34 seconds remaining on the power play. Schaefer goes to the penalty box at 3:36 for elbowing. Kobasew had a shot on net. Meanwhile, I’ve been counting down the minutes until the new Grey’s Anatomy. Thomas made a save and some Canadiens and Bruins got together. Thornton dropped the gloves. Ference and Thornton get minors for roughing, and an extra penalty goes to the Bruins, which Kessel serves. And Kovalev scored on the power play, giving the Habs the 3-0 lead at 13:18.
The Bruins have sent out a search party. They cannot find the net behind Huet to shoot at. The Bruins have 13 shots so far in the game, including 4 currently in the second period. Five minutes until Grey’s Anatomy which means I will check in later. I vowed not to go to Habs/Bruins games anymore, and I may vow not to live-blog them next.
And as soon as I typed that, Ward scores. The puck hit the back boards, and the puck bounced in off of Huet. Ward scores at 14:41. So maybe I’ll check in during Grey’s. Go Bruins!
Third Period: Lucic scored to make it a 3-2 game. And I click back to the game just in time to see the Habs 4th goal at 11:56. Then with 1:11 remaining in the game, the Canadiens scored again. And that was the last time I clicked over to the game. Bruins lose 5-2.
I’m so glad I will not be around for Saturday’s game.
