The floodgates have yet to open on today’s trade deadline, and to be honest, it’s downright boring. Peter Forsberg is returning to the NHL and he signed with the Colorado Avalanche. As for trades, there have only been a few since yesterday.
The highlight of the morning has been TSN’s TradeCentre showing Patrice Bergeron sitting on the Bruins bench before the team’s morning skate. Bergeron skated for the first time on Sunday for ten minutes, and skated yesterday for 15-20 minutes. It’s encouraging to see Bergeron back on the ice, even if his frame is 15 pounds lighter. To see him on the ice has to be one of the best moments of the season.
Now for the real reason I stopped by. I thought I would write up a game preview for tonight’s game against the Ottawa Senators. Tonight’s game is on TSN, as well as NESN, so make note of the 7:30 start time.
The Bruins return home tonight to host the Senators (36-21-6) in the first game of a three-game home stand. The Senators were shutout 5-0 last night against the Maple Leafs. Ray Emery started last night, but was relieved by Martin Gerber for the third period. The Bruins are 1-2-1 against the Senators this season.
They’re Going Streaking: The Bruins have four players (Dennis Wideman, Marc Savard, Marco Sturm, Zdeno Chara) currently in the midst of a four-game point streak. Savard has 7 points in his last four games. Milan Lucic and Phil Kessel both have a two-game point streak.
I haven’t the slightest idea who will be in net for the Bruins. It could be Tim Thomas (20-14-4, 2.47 GAA, .923 Sv%) or it could be Alex Auld (11-12-1, 2.91 GAA, .899 Sv%). Auld started in Saturday’s game against the Lightning. Gerber (23-10-2, 2.67 GAA, .912 Sv%) should be starting for the Senators.
Coach Claude Julien will be coaching his 300th game tonight.
Back to watching trade deadline coverage, but is it really coverage if there aren’t many trades? That’s something to ponder. Hopefully it picks up in the afternoon.
