2008-2009 Schedule Released

The NHL released its schedule for the upcoming 2008-2009 season. The Bruins' schedule can be found here.

The Bruins open the season in Colorado on October 9th. They have a four-game trip to open the season, facing the Avalanche, Wild, Canadiens and Senators.

A few games of note are the Canadiens visiting Boston for the first time since the playoffs on November 13th, the Detroit Red Wings coming to Boston November 29th, the St. Louis Blues coming to Boston on January 19th, and the San Jose Sharks visiting on February 10th.

The Sharks were the only other team I was hoping would be coming to Boston this season. Besides the Florida Panthers that is, but I already knew the Panthers had to come here at least twice.

I'll be back in a bit to really go over the schedule. I have to run out to an appointment (a.k.a get a shot in my arm).

2:14 p.m. Oh boy, what an honor the Bruins have. Lucky them.

The Bruins get the honor of opening three road buildings before their own – the Pepsi Center in Colorado, the Xcel Energy Center in Minnesota and the Bell Centre Montreal. After a game in Ottawa, they open the TD Banknorth Center Oct. 20 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Bruins have the latest home opener in the League.

Only opening three games? Why not go for the sweep? And of course we're the last team in the league to open at home. We usually are. The circus needs to come to town. And Madonna (October 15th) too.

It looks like the Bruins' longest home stand is in January. The longest road trips (besides the broken up one in October) look like it's the five-game trip in December (probably Disney on Ice time at the Garden), and another five-game road trip in February (another Disney on Ice thing).

My one beef with the schedule (and I think I'll only have one) is the Saturday home matinee games. After the first five Saturday home games, the remaining Saturday games all start at 1. I was hoping after last season, there wouldn't be a lot of Saturday matinees this season, but I stand corrected.

So, what's your take on the schedule? Love or hate the new format? Did you want different wildcard teams? What are your must go to games?

Not happy about there being no pre-season game in Manchester, NH. I've enjoyed going in the past because it's closer than Boston, the price is right and it's usually a good game.
