General manager Peter Chiarelli got one last signing done yesterday before the frenzy began today. Petteri Nokelainen signed a two-year contract with an average of $850,000. Nokelainen was set to become a restricted free agent.
No doubt Chiarelli is a busy man today, but he stopped by long enough yesterday to update his new blog over on the Bruins website.
Last year on this date, the Bruins signed Shawn Thornton, and two years ago, Zdeno Chara and Marc Savard were signed.
How big will the splash be today? Will it be a Marian Hossa-sized splash? Or will it be another player Chiarelli has his eye on? Do you want the Bruins to sign Hossa to an insane contract?
When I announced at the draft party that I didn't want Hossa on the Bruins, there were shocked looks in response. Either I have to be different from the rest of the crowd, or I don't want an insane contract to handcuff the Bruins for the next decade.
We'll see what happens today and the days to follow.
12:46 p.m. The Bruins announced they signed forward Blake Wheeler to an entry-level contract. Wheeler will forgo his senior year at the University of Minnesota to enter the NHL. He is also expected to attend the Bruins' development camp in Wilmington next week.
