Summer has easily become my least favorite season of them all. Usually summer drags on, is full of nothing-ness and when it gets around to late August, I always wonder what I did with all of my time.
However, this summer has a much different story. I haven't been able to keep track of time at all. Time flies by me and I wonder why there aren't more hours in a day and more days in a week.
My first summer getaway came last week with a trip to Maine to see some family. The weather was less than summer-like, and my over-packing of tank tops and t-shirts and capris and shorts left a lot to be desired. I froze my butt off! The time away made me realize how much I love it here at home, despite all of the problems this summer.
First, my IBM Thinkpad's hard drive abruptly died in July. I tried to recover it, but it was being too fussy and had problems with something in the linear section. Instead of purchasing a new laptop, I decided to get a new hard drive with 40GB of more memory. It arrived last week and I installed it, AFTER my old hard drive recovered itself one day and seemed to work if you didn't breathe too heavily around it.
So now I have two hard drives with no internet access. My wireless router apparently "bricked" itself when I was trying to use my old Compaq laptop with it. The power LED light blinks continuously in a happy little loop. Tonight, I purchased this one because my patience has already been spent this summer and I really can't afford anymore.
Second, there was a Friday a bit ago in July, maybe even the same week my laptop went non-working, (see? I really can't keep track of time) when I decided to do laundry. It's not too often I decide to dedicate an entire afternoon to laundry, so this was a big day. While the load of laundry did its thing, I decided to Go Green and set up the new Brita pitcher to reduce the plastic water bottles in our household.
This was just after a rainy week in Massachusetts so I didn't think too much of the water on the basement floor. We occasionally get water in the basement so it's never too much of a big deal. That was until I returned downstairs to see the sink filled with water and about four inches of water on the floor all around the washing machine. After waiting around for four hours for Roto Rooter, it turned out the main drain was blocked.
So outside of the whole hating on humidity, laptop and main drain hell, summer hasn't been too bad when spent in Boston. Oh I forgot my mini iPod also died so I impulsively purchased this before my trip to Maine. Of course it's pink and it's one of the best things I ever treated myself to, outside of Bruins related stuff like season tickets.
There have been no boring days of summer around here. Summer has exhausted me and I cannot wait until September. Bring on the hockey season because this summer thing is so not working for me.
