Game Preview: Red Wings vs. Bruins

The Bruins face the defending Stanley Cup champions Detriot Red Wings tonight. This is the first time since November 28-29, 1997 the Bruins will play two consecutive home games. The Bruins are coming off a 7-2 win against the Islanders yesterday. The Red Wings were also in action last night, winning 5-3 against Columbus.

Fans know how good the Bruins are and how well they compete against other teams this season. However, when the NHL had its old schedule, with not every team playing one another, the Bruins didn't get to play five teams from the Western Conference. Now because the NHL changed the format, the Bruins get to see exactly how they match up against teams from the West. It will be good to see how they match up against the defending champs tonight.

Fluto Shinzawa had some good quotes from Red Wings coach Mike Babcock today.

"Every night we play in the league, when you read the clips before, it's a 'measuring game.' It's a 'measuring-stick game,' " said Detroit's Mike Babcock. "This is our 23d measuring-stick game for the other team. Every night is for us. It's going to be fun for us."

"I think," Babcock continued, "when I watch all the teams in the league right now, the two teams that seem to be the most excited and all playing together are Boston and San Jose. Those are the two teams for me."

It will be a good test for the Bruins.

Goalies: Projected starters in bold. (I'm going opposite what has been reported in the media.)
DETROIT: Ty Conklin (6-2-0, 2.48 GAA, .914 SV%), Chris Osgood (9-1-4, 3.24 GAA, .878 SV%)
BOSTON: Tim Thomas (9-3-3, 1.88 GAA, .940 SV%), Manny Fernandez (6-1-1, 2.48 GAA, .911 SV%)

Injuries: Marco Sturm, reported concussion... Andrew Ference, fractured tibia.

An abbreviated game preview today because of how late it is and the headache that is starting to develop. Pictures of the new jerseys from this weekend will be up by/on Monday. Go Bruins!

The B's are really impressive !! I was afraid of these 3 games (Buffalo - thay can better than they actually do NYI - They've been playing very well lately and ... The Wings - no need to comment). They came up with for 4 points out of 6 !!

It's a collective effort starting with goalies, surely the best duo in the league at the moment.

On defence everything seems to be under control with Chara, Wideman, Stuart, Hunwick (how can you snd back this guy to Providence now ???).

And what the offence, the third best in the league with Savard, Kessel, Krejci, etc...)

Sturm injured, Bergy who could give a little more, and Ryder who finally starts contributing !!

They remind me last year's Habs, with no such injury, and collective effort.

I look at the newspaper this morning and they are 12 points ahead of 9th spot.
Hopefully they've put enough points in bank so they can face a "winning recession".. because there should be one eventually.

Claude Julien really impresses me with his "team system". Everybody contributes and wins.
